About NPT
American tapered pipe thread. The taper wedges tight and seals on the thread flanks with sealant or PTFE tape. Found on pumps, compressors, gauges, valves and general plumbing across North America.

About Slip
Iron pipe size slip sockets and spigots. The socket takes pipe OD; the spigot is turned to pipe OD. Solvent cement on PVC and CPVC, or a light press on metal. Same nominal sizes as NPT from 1/8 to 3 in.
IPS slip socket, same iron pipe size as NPT. Seals by: solvent cement on plastic, or a light press on metal.
One part, fewer leaks
A single machined adapter replaces a stack of two or three, so there are fewer joints to leak and the run is shorter and lighter.

What pressure is an NPT to Slip adapter rated for?
It depends on the size and material. In pvc type 1, the common sizes on this page are rated from 150 to 150 psi, set by the lower rated end. The builder shows the exact rating for your part, including a wall thickness check.
